Make Sure Your VFX Effects Look Great In Your Film

If you are going to provide a VFX-heavy scene for your film, you may wonder how to first get started on it. VFX can be much more difficult to get right, but when you are able to pull it off, your film will be much more engaging and professional.

Create a Storyboard

A storyboard will allow you to lay out the basics of your vision. Also, if you have any new ideas, you can compare them to the existing ideas and determine which ideas might work the best. With the storyboard, begin with the largest scope of your ideas and then work your way down to the smaller details. If you are working with a film production studio, give your storyboard to the studio.

For sequences that are very VFX-heavy, you may need to use previs. This is essentially a moving storyboard that allows you to save money by allowing you to decide exactly how your shots will look and sticking with your plans. Having to redo VFX is expensive and time-consuming if you realize that it doesn't look right or doesn't match up with your original intention.

Concept Art

The time taken to create concept art will ensure that you are able to realize your vision with your VFX effects. Concept art allows you to make sure that your team is all on the same page. Some concept art is more like a painting and other examples of concept art are photorealistic. The process of creating concept art should be ongoing as you make revisions and allow your vision to evolve.

Review the Shots

Review each shot and take down notes. Make sure that the shots are reviewed by multiple people so that you can be certain that they have been done right. If you have your VFX handled by a film production studio, you will have professionals reviewing the shots and you will also be able to review the shots and see that they are what you are looking for as a client.

Physical Production

The physical aspects of your film production must be high-quality in order for your VFX effects to look great and vice versa. For example, you will need to make sure that your lighting looks great. For this reason, you will want to consider hiring a film production studio to handle all aspects of your film production as you focus on having your vision realized.
